Ingredients of Senaikizhangu Poriyal / Yam Fry
- You need 1/2 kg of Senaikizhangu / Elephant Yam.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of Turmeric powder.
- You need 1 of small piece of Tamarind.
- Prepare of Salt -as per taste.
- Prepare 2 tsp of Oil.
- You need 1/2 tsp of Mustard seeds.
- Prepare 1/2 tsp of Urad Dal.
- It's 1 of Medium Size Onion chopped.
- You need of Curry leaves few.
- It's 4 of Green chillies.
- You need of Coriander leaves few.
- You need 1 tbsp of Grated Coconut.
- You need of Coconut oil -as required.
- You need of Water -as required.
Senaikizhangu Poriyal / Yam Fry step by step
- Apply some Coconut oil in your hand. Peel off the yam skin and cut into small pieces. And put those pieces in a water bowl. Wash it twice in tap water..
- Place a pressure cooker in the stove. Switch on the flame and add those yam pieces, some water, turmeric powder, tamarind and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook for 2 whistles..
- Once the pressure goes off. Open the lid, drain the water and take out the tamarind piece..
- Place a kadai in the stove. Switch on the flame. Add oil..
- Once oil gets heat, add mustard seeds and urad dal. Fry it..
- Then add onions, curry leaves and green chillies. Saute till onions becomes translucent..
- Add the cooked yam pieces and saute well for 3 mins in medium flame..
- At last add grated coconut and coriander leaves. Saute for a minute and switch off the flame..
- Now it's ready to serve. Serve as a Sidedish for your lunch..
